1335927 Macrocyclic compounds INTERNATIONAL FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES Inc 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970(4)] 23674/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises α,#-unsaturatedcyclohexadecenone of formula #-C 1-4 alkyl cyclohexadecenones, in particular #-methylcyclohexadecenone of the formula #-C 1-4 alkylcyclohexadecanones, in particular #-methylcyclohexadecanone of the formula and 9- and 8-hydroxy-1-cyclohexadecanones of the formula The α,#-unsaturated-cyclohexadecenone is prepared by oxidizing the corresponding α,#-unsaturated alcohol and may itself be treated with alkyl magnesium halide to convert it into #-alkyl-cyclohexadecenone which may be hydrogenated to form #-alkyl-cyclohexadecanone. The 9- and 8-hydroxycyclohexadecanones are prepared by oxidizing a mixture of 1,8- and 1,9-cyclohexadecadiols.
