Abstract
1335720 Yttrium separation MOLYBDENUM CORP OF AMERICA 11 May 1971 [1 June 1970] 14132/71 Heading C1A Yttrium values are separated from an aq. solution of yttrium values in admixture with rare earth values by continuously: (a) extracting with a substantially water-insoluble amine or salt thereof; (b) extracting the aq. phase from (a) with a (halo-, di- or tri-alkyl)alkanoic acid containing 8-11 C atoms; (c) scrubbing the org. phase form (b) with aq. mineral acid; (d) recovering Y from the aq. phase of (c). A salting-out agent may be added to step (a), the pH being adjusted to at least 4. In step (a) the pH is pref. 0À2-5À0, in step (b) 4À0-5À8, and in step (c) 3À5-4À5. The extractants may be dissolved in an organic diluent.
