Abstract
1483115 Solvent extraction of Ga and In metal values DOWA MINING CO Ltd 23 Oct 1974 45817/74 Heading C1A Indium and/or gallium metal values are recovered from an aqueous solution by contacting the solution with a tertiary saturated aliphatic acid dissolved in a water immiscible organic medium, and then subjecting the organic phase containing the metal values in complex forms to back extraction using a dilute mineral acid. The aliphatic acid may be dissolved in kerosene or xylene; the pH of the aqueous solution, which may also contain Cu, FeAl, ZnNi, Co or As, is preferably adjusted to between 1À5 and 5À0 if In is absent, or to between 1À0 and 5À0 if Ga is absent. If both In and Ga are extracted, they may be subsequently separated from the dilute mineral acid phase using isopropylether for Ga and tributyl phosphate for In; extraction yields may be as high as 99À3 and 95À5%, respectively.
