Abstract

1335365 Stay T P JONES and S T WELLER 18 Jan 1971 [16 Oct 1969] 19494/69 Heading E2F A friction stay as shown comprises a rectangular casing 4 which houses resilient means 5 disposed on either side of a strip member 6 which is movable inwardly and outwardly of the casing 4 and guided by guide surfaces in a cap 7. The strip member 6 is stiffly held by the resilient means wherever its position in the casing 4. Strips 13 of polytetrafluoroethylene may be interposed between the strip member 6 and resilient means 5. The resilient means may comprise strips of foamed plastics or rubber 12 or corrugated steel springs or a plurality of coil springs. The strip member 6 may either have a bulbous end 9 with a spacer 11 provided between the two ends or the strip may be tapered along the whole of its length, with a spacer between the two ends. The strip member 6 and casing 4 are pivoted to fixed and movable parts of a hinged article.
