1335202 Shrink-wrapping stacks of articles FISONS Ltd 13 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24602/70 Heading B8C A process for shrink-wrapping a stack of articles such as cartons, or sacks, 1 comprises forming two, or more, layers of articles, covering each layer with a sheet 8 of heat-shrinkable thermoplastic film, such as biaxially-orientated P.V.C., to overlap that layer by a distance greater than the depth of that layer, and heating the assembly to a temperature, for example from 60-300‹ C., to cause the overlapping portions of each sheet to deform and shrink about the layer which it covers and to become welded to a sheet immediately below so that the stack is enclosed in thermoplastic film. The layers 2-6 are preferably placed by an automatic palletizer, not shown, on to a pallet 6 for subsequent removal by a fork lift truck, each layer of articles being covered by a film 8-11 before being transferred to the pallet 6 and a film 7 being either placed on the platform of the palletizer, or on the pallet. Other suitable heat-shrinkable thermoplastic materials are stated to be biaxially-orientated polypropylene, rubber hydrochloride, polytetraphthalate and polystyrene.
