Abstract
1334957 Photo-conductive composition FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 11 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1303/71 Headings G2C and C17E In a method of forming a photo-conductive coating composition comprising inorganic photoconductive powder and an insulating resinous binder, the photo-conductive powder is treated with an organic liquid which does not contain a hydroxyl group, has a dielectric constant of not less than 10 at 20‹C., is a solvent for the binder but is not a solvent for the photo-conductor and the treated powder is homogeneously dispersed in the binder. The photo-conductor is preferably ZnO or TiO 2 while the solvent may be pyridine, benzaldehyde, nitrobenzene, ethylene diamine, acetone, cyclohexanone, benzophenone, or methylethyl, diethyl, di-isobutyl, or methyl-npropyl ketone. The resin may be a styrenated alkyd resin, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate or of styrene, n-butyl methacrylate and hydroxyethyl methacrylate or an acrylated alkyd resin and may be cross-linked with a polyisocyanate by curing. A mixture of sensitizing dyes may be added to photo-conductor while it is being treated with the organic liquid or the dye mixture may be added when the resin and photoconductor are blended. A small portion of the resin can be added during the treatment step of the photo-conductor which is preferably performed in a grinding mill, mixer or blender. The composition is coated on an aluminized polyethylene terephthalate sheet to give an electro-photographic element.
