Abstract

1334904 Chloroprene polymerization catalyst BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 April 1970] 26565/71 Heading C3P Chloroprene is polymerized in aqueous emulsion in the presence of a catalytic amount of a metal salt of peroxydiphosphoric acid. The emulsion may also contain another catalyst, e.g. potassium persulphate, and an initiator, e.g. sodium dithionate. In examples the catalyst is added gradually to an aqueous emulsion containing 2,6-ditert.-butyl-p-cresol, n-dodecyl mercaptan, disproportionated wood rosin, and a naphthalene sulphonic acid-formaldehyde condensate, and the reaction is short-stopped by a mixture of p-tert.-butyl catechol and phenothiazine.
