Abstract

1334854 Cutting apparatus SEND ENG Ltd and M MYERS & SON Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 12306/70 Heading B4B Apparatus for cutting paper, card or the like, comprises a rotary cutting wheel 18 movable along an edge of a fixed blade 6 and mounted in a housing 10, the cutting wheel being provided with a friction wheel 22 which rotatably drives the rotary cutter wheel as it is drawn along the fixed blade. The cutter wheel 18 is formed with a frusto-conical portion 20 adapted to roll against a rail 12, thereby urging the cutter wheel against the blade by a wedging action. The housing 10 is made of a resilient material and provided with a groove which can be snapped over the rail 12. In the modification, shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the rail is replaced by a flange 46 formed in a metal base 32 and the carriage 50 is formed with an elongated handle portion 52; the contact edge of the flange may be curled over to give a rounded contact surface, Fig. 7 (not shown). In a further modification, instead of the wheel axles being located in slots 24, Fig. 3, only one slot may be provided, the other axle only abutting a shoulder 68 formed in the housing.
