Abstract

1334672 Pile fabrics IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Oct 1970 [30 Oct 1969 4 June 1970] 53265/69 and 27068/70 Heading D1K A pile fabric is formed by feeding a woven base fabric 2 and a thermoplastic film 6 between two rollers 3, 4, the roller 3 being heated so that the thermoplastic material is melted slightly and passes through the fabric and adheres to the roller 3 causing long filaments of thermoplastic material to be drawn out; these are then subsequently cooled and disjoined from the roller 3 by an air jet nozzle 1. The film 6 may be formed directly from an extruder 5. The film 6 which may have a critical melting point may be fed vertically downwardly from the extruder. In an alternative form Fig. 6 a second thermoplastic material 14 may be fed between the first layer 6 and the base material 2. The second layer may be patterned or deposited in particle form. The sheet may be of polymeric material, vinyl chloride or acetate acrylonitrile, styrene, butadiene, vinylidene chloride ethylene, propylene or polyamide. The base fabric may be Hessian, cotton net, glass fibre or lemon scrim. The rolls may be of metal, stonewove, concrete or glass and may be rough or smooth embossed with non-adhesive surface areas.
