Abstract
1333852 Hinge WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd 20 Jan 1972 [5 Feb 1971] 4011/70 Heading E2F [Also in Division B7] A hinge 19 of a helicopter rotor blade comprises: a leading portion 21 and a trailing portion 22 both secured to a flange 27 which is fixed to the inboard section 25 of a blade; and a central portion 23 rotatable relative to the leading and trailing portions, driven by an electric motor 37 through gears 38, and secured to a flange 28 fixed to the outboard section of the blade through an integral flange 31 of the central portion 23. When the blade is extended, an arm 35, Fig. 5, of the central portion 23 enters a recess formed in the flange 24 to mate therewith. A blade lock actuator 35 has a ram 36 which then enters holes in the arms 35 and flange 24 to lock the blade. An integral automatic locking arrangement, may be incorporated instead.
