Abstract
1500007 Rotary wing aircraft WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd 23 July 1975 [22 Aug 1974] 37016/74 Heading B7W A rotary-wing aircraft having folding blades has elastomeric bearings 19 for each blade, and to prevent stressing of the bearings when the blades 11 are folded about pivots 24, the blade root portion 14 is locked to the hub 13 prior to folding. The root portion 14 has a cylinder 23 housing an hydraulic actuator 28 and a piston 29 having teeth 32 complementary with teeth 33 provided on the hub. Splines 30 prevent rotation of the postion in the cylinder, and the blade is locked by extending the actuator. The actual folding of the blade is effected by an hydraulically operable toothed quadrant 26 which meshes with a toothed quadrant 27 associated with the pivot 24. To prevent unwanted movements of the blades when the hub is at rest, a blade droop stop and anti-flap mechanism (38), Fig. 1 (not shown), is provided.
