Abstract

1333476 Seat frames BIRNAM PRODUCTS Ltd 17 April 1972 [13 May 1971] 14735/71 Headings A4H, A4M [Also in Division B5] A vehicle seat frame comprises a plurality of elongate reinforcing elements of wire or tubular metal or pressed metal embedded within a plastics body, the elements having plates secured thereto, said plates carrying nuts (4) accessible through holes moulded or drilled in the plastics to provide for attachment to a seat slide by bolts. The seat frame may comprise two pieces joined by a hinge which may form part of a recliner mechanism; an integral head restraint and seat belt attachment members. The reinforcing member is bolted to the mould and the mould is filled with e.g. liquid polyurethane, i.e. a mixture of polyols, a polymethylene polyphenyl di-iso-cyanate, activators e.g. a silicone oil and a blowing agent, and catalysts. A flexible cushion may be integrally moulded with the frame in a further step. The polyurethane may be bonded to the wire by etching or degreasing the latter.
