1333442 Detection of free chlorine in aqueous solutions MILES LABORATORIES Inc 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 22100/71 Addition to 1311325 Heading B1X A test device for use in the detection of free chlorine in aqueous solutions comprises a carrier member incorporated with a reagent comprising a compound having the general formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are each hydroxy or amino groups; X, X<SP>1</SP>, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> are each hydrogen hydroxy, methyl or methoxy groups or a mixture of such compounds in the absence of glucose oxidase. Specifically mentioned are syringaldazine and vanillinazine. The carrier member may be a test device as in Specification 1,311,325 in which the wick material is paper (exemplified), cloth, fibrous synthetic polymer, processed wool, clay-like substances or polymeric gels processed to form membrane structures.
