Abstract

1332947 Cytological sampling device W H CURTIS 13 July 1971 [20 July 1970] 32905/71 Heading A5R A device for obtaining cytological samples from the female genital tract comprises an elongated handle 10 to which is attached a collector 12 of substantially conical shape and made of a soft, resiliently flexible material. The collector 12 has a rounded apex 14. The material of the collector 12 may be synthetic foam, for example polyurethane foam, having a porosity of between 4 and 40 pores per linear centimetre and a density of between 15 and 50 kilograms per cubic metre. A plate 13 may be attached to the base of the collector 12. The plate 13 may be made of rigid plastics material. A sample is obtained from the cervix or vagina by rolling the collector against the tissue, withdrawing the collector, and rolling it on a slide.
