Abstract
1332795 Reciprocating conveyers DAVY & UNITED ENG CO Ltd 2 July 1971 [24 July 1970] 35951/70 Heading B8A Billets B to be quenched in a tank 26 are fed by a roller table 2 from which they are transferred on to a walking beam conveyer having a first part adjacent the top of the tank and a second part which is immersed in the bath. Devices 52 lower the billets from the first part to the second part and similar devices 52<SP>1</SP> raise the billets from the bath at its other end for discharge by a roller table 2<SP>1</SP>. The walking beam conveyer also includes dogs 18 pivotally mounted on upper horizontal portions 20, vertical portions 22, and lower horizontal portions 24, rollers 30 in the tank serving to support the portions 24. Further upper and lower horizontal portions 32, 36 are mounted on rocking levers 38 actuated, via levers 46, by a cylinder unit 50. The devices 52 and 52<SP>1</SP> each comprise a billetengaging bar 54 mounted for rocking movement on a shaft 58 actuated by a cylinder unit 68 and a connecting rod 64. In operation, when beam portions 20 are reciprocated by a rack and pinion device 10, the billets, after being drawn off the. table 2 (Fig. 1) by the dogs 18, are lifted by beam portions 32 and moved to the right before being loewred on to beam portions 20. At the same time, bars B previously lying in the zone of the devices 52 are lowered by the bars 54 on to the lower horizontal beam portions 24. Continued reciprocation of the portions 20, 24 and reciprocation, raising and lowering of beam portions 32, 36 causes step-by-step transfer of the bars through the tank for discharge by the devices 52<SP>1</SP> and roller table 2<SP>1</SP>.
