Abstract
1332321 Hose reeling apparatus DASIC EQUIPMENT Ltd 23 Dec 1970 [15 April 1970] 18023/70 Heading B8M A hose reeling machine comprises a connection 11 for pressure fluid, a rotatable drum 8 for reeling flexible hose through which the pressure fluid supplied to the connection 11 can pass, a wheeled trolley on which the drum is rotatably mounted, drive means to rotate the drum, the drive means being drivable by pressure fluid supplied to the connection 11, and means whereby the wheeled trolley can be locked in position relative to an aperture in the upper wall of a tank through which aperture the hose can pass to a tank washing machine positioned to wash the inner walls of the tank. Means may be provided to control the drive means such that upon initial energization of the means, the drive means rotate the drum to reel-out hose while supplying fluid thereto, until a predetermined length of hose has been reeled out, and then upon operation of limit means, rotate the drum to reel-in the hose until further limit means de-energize the drive means. In operation, the drive means comprises a Pelton wheel connected by gears to a trunnion 10 on which the drum is mounted. In one embodiment, pressure fluid is supplied to the connection 11 and a duplex valve 18 supplies fluid to either feed line 19 or 20 to supply fluid via nozzles to the twin Pelton wheels provided in housing 14. The output of the Pelton wheel is transmitted via gearing at a reduction of preferably 500 : 1 to rotate the drum 8 to reel out hose. After sufficient hose is reeled out, the stop valve 12 is opened to feed pressure fluid via pipe 13 to a hollow trunnion 9 of the drum and thence via an axial connection to the hose on the drum. After a predetermined length of time, the valve 18 is actuated to supply pressure fluid to the other feed line 20, 19 to reverse the rotation of the shaft of the Pelton wheels and thus reel-in the hose, the stop valve 12 having been closed. In an alternative embodiment, the reversing of rotation of the shaft of the Pelton wheels is actuated automatically. Rotation of the drum 8 causes a lead screw or a pinnion driven rack to be operated, which screw or rack carries abutment means co-operating with a projection on a rotatable member driven for rotation through a limited arc of movement by abutment of the projection and the abutment means. The rotatable member is so connected to valves that in one extreme position of its arc of movement, the drum rotates in one direction, in a middle position rotation of the drum is prevented, and in the other extreme position, the drum rotates in the opposite direction. The drum is mounted on a trolley comprising a frame 2, 3, 4, 5 and wheels 7 and is associated with a machine for washing the inside of a tank for example on a tanker ship. The trolley carries a cover 27 with a hose guide 29 for positioning over an aperture in the top wall of the tank. A further hose guide 30 may be provided on the trolley and a pinion 17 may be provided to which a handle can be attached for emergency reeling of the drum.
