Abstract

1332268 Ferrous alloy powders FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 8 Dec 1971 [29 March 1971] 56984/71 Headings C7A C7D A pre-alloy powder for use in producing forged articles comprises, in weight per cent: - and low carbon content preferably less than 0À01%. the balance being iron. Up to one-half of the nickel content may be replaced by copper. Producing forgings The pre-alloy metal powder is mixed with sufficient natural graphite to provide the required composition after forging, e.g. up to 0À4% graphite, comparted to approximately the desired shape. Sintered under a reducing atmosphere, e.g. hydrogen at 2000-2400‹F. cooler, reheated and forger, initially at about 1600‹F. The sintered compacts may be equalized at 1600‹F prior to forging. The forged articles may be connecting rods of internal combustion engines, gears or other automobile components.
