Abstract

1332244 Valve oscillator circuits PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 17237/71 Heading H3F The invention comprises an oscillator for a cyclotron comprising first and second acceleration electrodes 100, 200 respectively, contained within an envelope 2 and first and second wave tubes 104, 204 respectively, each having an inner conductor 101, 201 and an outer conductor 102, 202, the inner conductors each being connected to a different one of the acceleration electrodes and the outer conductors each being connected to the envelope, each inner conductor being short-circuited to the outer conductor at a position away from its position of connection to the corresponding acceleration electrode. The oscillator comprises first and second thermionic tubes 110, 210 respectively each of which is connected as an oscillator having an output which is coupled to a position on the inner conductor of a different wave tube via a coupling impedance, i.e. capacitors 124, 224, which position lies between the aforesaid positions, an impedance, i.e. series connected capacitors 114, 214 which is predominantly reactive at the operating frequency of the oscillator being connected between the cathodes of the two tubes, and having a reactance such as to constrain the oscillator to oscillate in operation in such a manner that it will drive the acceleration electrodes either in the push-pull mode while excluding the parallel mode or in the parallel mode while excluding the push-pull mode. In the embodiment each of the oscillator tubes has an inductor 112, 212 respectively in one filament lead, of tubular form with the other filament lead 115, 215 respectively running through its centre; these inductors are tuned by capacitors 113, 213 respectively and oscillation is produced by feedback from the anodes over capacitors 124, 224 respectively.
