Abstract

1331841 Acoustic reflectors; piezoel-ectric transducers MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 22270/71 Headings H4J and H4X A cylindrical electro-acoustic transducer element 1 (Fig. 5B) has an inner acoustic reflector 5 and an outer acoustic reflector 7. Both reflectors are preferably of substantially conical shape but the outer reflector 7 may be circumferentially incomplete (Figs. 5A, 5C). Phase matching of acoustic energy from the inner and outer reflectors is achieved by appropriate selection of the angles of the cones and the operating frequency so that waves transmitted in the direction P reinforce each other. The transducer element 1 is of barium titanate or lead zirconate lead titanate. The reflectors 5, 7 may be produced by using curved generator lines instead of straight generator lines as shown. An acoustic shield 8 provides selected directivity. The devices are for transmission or reception of audible or ultrasonic signals.
