Abstract
1331748 Inductors NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 17 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 61475/69 Heading HIT A saturistor, in which the resistive component of the inductance increases with the frequency of the A.C. current in the winding 12, has its grain-orientated magnetically hard material divided into several members 13 separated by magnetically soft material 14. For each magnetically hard member 13 the ratio of the square roof of its area normal to the direction of flux divided by its height parallel to the flux (the "aspect ratio") is more than two and typically thirty. For three phase working the saturistor may comprise three cores each with a winding, each core comprising one third of the magnetically hard members and the remainder of magnetically soft-material, the cores being joined in parallel by magnetically soft material. A D.C. winding may be provided to vary the resistance and reactance by varying the direct current.
