Abstract

1331683 Triazoles GAF CORP 14 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 4651/73 Divided out of 1331682 Heading C2C [Also in Division D1] Novel compounds of the general formula wherein Y 1 and Y 2 are selected from H, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, cyano, halogen, and SO 3 M wherein M is selected from H, ammonium, sodium, or potassium and Y 3 is selected from H, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, cyano, halogen, CO 2 M<SP>1</SP> and SO 3 M<SP>1</SP>, wherein M<SP>1</SP> is H, NH 4 , Na or K, exhibit fluorescent brightening properties. A typical preparative procedure is given in Example 1, where the hydrochloride salt of the ethyl ester of #-amino-#-ethoxy acrylic acid (prepared from ethanol, HCl and cyanoacetic acid ethyl ester) is converted to malonomamidine hydrochloride (utilizing ethanol and NH 3 gas) which is then converted to the dye (4-styrylphenyl) azomalonomamidine hydrochloride (using 4-amino stilbene) which in turn is treated with cupric chloride in picoline and Na 2 S to give the desired product 5-amino-2- (4 - styrylphenyl) - 2H - 1,2,3 - triazole - 4- carboxamide.
