Abstract
133,133. Jefferies, W. F. Sept. 28, 1918. Attachments for screwing and tapping.-In a tapping or screwing device of the kind having a driving-pin 18 on the tap or die holder 17 which disengages with a pin 12 when the tap has entered sufficiently far into the work, means are provided to separate the pins 18, 12 after disengagement. In a preferred form, the pin 12 is carried by a flange 8 pivotally mounted on a sleeve 1 held in the machine, and given a retracting motion by a pin 9 and slot 10 working in conjunction with a spring 15, so as to provide considerable clearance between the pins 18, 12 when they disengage. The pin 12 works in a slot in the fixed collar 4. The die-holder 17 is carried by a rod 3 slidable in the sleeve 1. To remove the tap or die, the rotation of the work is reversed, and pins 20 on the rod 3 hold the tap from rotation by engaging snail-stops 19 on the sleeve.
