Abstract

1331224 Sealing GERRARD INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Oct 1970 [24 Oct 1969] 52096/69 Heading B6P [Also in Division F2] A strap sealing tool comprises a fluid pressure operated rack 32 coupled to strap jointing means 12 through a toggle linkage comprising a gear sector 28 pivoted on a slidable crosshead 25 carrying a movable jointing die 26, and a lever 29. The rack 32 is driven by pneumatically operated piston 31. Hydraulic pressure may alternatively be employed. The die 26 is releasably fired to the crosshead and cooperates with a fixed punch 27 releasably supported in the body 11 of the tool. The tool further comprises air motor driven strap tensioning means including a knurled wheel 20 (see also Division F2), which is operated first to tension the strap until the air motor 16 stalls, the motor being maintained operative while the rack 32 is reciprocated by the configuration of levers 50, 49 operating the air motor 16 and rack piston 31.
