Abstract

1330676 Illuminating arrangements; polarizing apparatus EASTMAN KODAK CO 5 Oct 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 47289/70 Headings G2A, G2C and G2J] In a photographic copying apparatus, as shown a projection printer, two relatively movable polarizers 34, 40 are provided, which polarizers thereby vary the intensity of light falling on a photo-sensitive medium 10 from a first portion of an original, as shown a film negative 14. The negative 14 has two areas of differing densities, and the polarizer 34 is arranged to cover only the area 30 of low density, while the rotatable polarizer 40 acts on light from the whole of the negative. Thus variations in the densities of areas 30 on successive negatives can be easily compensated for. Alternatively polarizer 34 may be rotatable, in which case the areas 30 are circular. By repositioning the light source, opaque originals may be copied. In another embodiment Fig.2, (not shown), the polarizers are provided in a contact printer.
