1330401 Clothes airers HILL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 7236/71 Heading A4U [Also in Division E1-2] In a rotary clothes airer comprising a standard 1 held upright in a tabular plastics socket forming a footing 2 and concreted in the ground, a hollow cylindrical plastics insert 3 is force-fitted in the lower end of the standard for twist-lock engagement with the socket and has a zone b, of circular outline, and zones a and c which provide pairs of projections 6, the projection of the zone a being offset 90 degrees relatively to the projections of the zone c. The socket has external keying ribs (7) and integral, segmental, inward projections 8 forming a hole 9 of the same shape as the zones a and c and in which the zones have clearance. The standard is secured by insertion in the socket and rotation until the zone c drops through the hole 9 and the projections 6 of the zone a rest on the projections 8. On further rotation of the standard through 90 degrees the zone a drops into the hole so that the lower end of the standard rests on the projections 8 and the projections 6 of the zone c abut the lower surfaces of the projections 8 and prevent removal of the standard from the socket until it is rotated. The insert has a reduced upper end for force fitting into a standard of smaller internal diameter and the parts of the socket above and below the projections 8 are of different diameters so that the socket can be inverted for use with a standard of different size. In modifications, the plastics projections 8 are replaced by a U-shape metal member for embracing the socket and having the arms projecting through slots in the wall thereof, or a pair of outward projections is provided on the standard and two angularly disposed pairs of inward projections are provided in the socket each of the latter pairs bounding a hole of non-circular outline in which the outward projections are a clearance fit.
