Abstract

1330301 Shielded containers S G YOUNG 28 Sept 1970 [17 July 1969] 36090/79 Heading B4Q A shielded transport container for a radioactive source includes an unsegmented solid lead core 1 encased in an iron shield 2, with a blind hole 6 in the core for accommodating a source holder 10 which is withdrawable through an aligned opening 4 in the shield, which opening is provided with a connector 11 for a screw-on closure cap (Fig. 2, not shown) which, when in place prevents access to a lateral safety screw 13 locking the source holder in the hole by engagement in a recess or groove 14 of the holder. The container may be employed as an exposure container when associated with a separate withdrawal mechanism which may be secured to the shield by a mounting case 19, and removal of which while the source holder is in a withdrawable condition is prevented by the engagement of the screw 13 in a socket 21 of the casing 19 whenever the screw is withdrawn to permit movement of the source holder.
