Tools for setting-out work. - The scriber and stem of a scribing-block are provided with adjusting and locking means operated by eccentric devices for rapid action. The stem f, Figs. 1 and 4, passes through holes in a sleeve g, engaging a conical recess in a bracket d extending from the base a, and through a hole in a pin l having a screwed extension fitted with an adjusting nut o and pivoted cam lever p, and is locked against sliding and rotary motion by moving the lever to the position shown, but is released, except for a limited friction caused by a spring n' and interposed washers m<1>, n<1>, n<2>, when the lever p is moved into alinement with the pin l. The sleeve and pin are also provided with holes h to receive the scriber when the stem is not required. The scriber j is normally held in a clamping bracket s on the stem /, and the clamping of the bracket and also the locking of the scriber against sliding and rotary movement is effected simultaneously by a sleeve-and-pin device similar to that shown in Fig. 4. The device, however, is preferably fitted with a worm wheel u, Fig. 5, arranged between the sleeve and clamping bracket and gearing with a worm t by which a fine rotary adjustment of the scriber can be effected when the device is unlocked. The V-grooved base is provided with holes c through which pins may be protruded for use against a ledge on, or the edge of, a surface plate or marking-off table.
