1329393 Surgical stapler VSESOJUZNY NAUCHO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV MINISTERSTVA ZDRAVOOKHRANENIA SSSR 29 Jan 1972 6279/72 Heading A5R An instrument for suturing blood vessels with U-shaped staples comprises two arcuate supports 21 which when joined together define a cylindrical bore for accommodating the vessel, and two arcuate stapling members 10 enclosing the supports so that an annular gap for engaging the walls of the vessels is left between the stapling members and support. Staple bending depressions 57 are formed, in the outer peripheral surface of the supports and are aligned with radial slots in the stapling member from which the staples are sutured into the vessel, and semi-rings 39 turnable within the arcuate stapling members have grooves 42 which engage the ends of shanks 43 so that when the semi-rings turned, the shanks are forced radially inwardly to eject a staple, from its radial slot. The supports are attached, by means of bars 23 to elongate members 4 and 22, respectively, Fig. 4 and the stapling members 10 by bars 12 to elongate members 5 and 11, the former of which accommodates a rod 44, longitudinally adjustable by means of a thumbscrew 45 at one end. The other end of the rod 48 engages a shank 49 fixed to a semiring 38 and movement of the rod causes the shank 49 and semi-ring to turn, whereby shanks 41 are moved radially inwards by grooves 40 in the semi-ring 38, until a staple engaging the shank 41 is moved into abutment with the vessel to be sutured. A lever 51 is pivotable about a screw 52 to turn the semi-ring 39 by means of the interaction of teeth 53 at the end of the lever and rods 54 fixed to the semi-ring 39, and thereby eject the staples. A stop 60 on the movable rod limits the movement of the lever 51 and thus the movement of actuators pushed by the rods 43 to eject the staples.
