Abstract

1328794 Buckets; vibrating cutters BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1970 [18 June 1969] 30885/69 Headings E1F and E1H [Also in Division F1] An excavating device comprises a digging bucket, a hydraulic actuator connected to reciprocate a bucket-mouth edge or one or more bucket teeth, and valves adjustable so that the amplitude of reciprocation lies in the range from zero to 1.50 inches and the frequency lies in the range from zero to 150 cycles per second. The valves are preferably adjustable so that the amplitude lies in the range from 0.025 to 0.25 inches, and the frequency lies in the range from 30 to 80 cycles per second. As shown, the actuator may comprise four reciprocable jacks 32 each connected to a tooth 34. Each jack may be connected to more than one tooth or to less than one tooth, e.g. four jacks may be connected to three combined teeth. The bucket-mouth edge, when connected to the actuator, may have one or more teeth. The reciprocable edge may be connected to a tamping plate which may be pressed against the ground by boom jacks 16, 21 while being reciprocated. The plate may be curved, and may be rocked by the boom jack during tamping. Alternatively, the reciprocable edge may be connected to a pile which is pressed into the earth by the boom jacks while being reciprocated.
