Abstract

1,044,403. Trenching machines. CLEVELAND TRENCHER CO. Feb. 13, 1964 [Feb. 13, 1963], No. 6106/64. Heading E1F. A trenching machine comprises a chain 40 of buckets 42 running over upper and lower mounting members 34, 38, each bucket comprising a plurality of back plates (56), (56a) mounted on links (58) (Fig. 3, not shown) forward plate (56) supporting a spade 70, and the buckets being cleaned of spoil by cleaner 54 as they pass over member 34. Figs. 3, 5 (not shown) illustrate how each bucket 42 comprises plates (56), (56a) and how a central web 68 supports spade 70 which carries a detachable rooter tooth 74 in a sleeve (78). Cleaner 54 (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises a plate having a T- shaped slot through which web 68 and spade 70, 74 may pass. The lower mounting member 38 has flat faces (Fig. 4, not shown) whereby the spade 70, 74 is clear of the ground being dug until it begins the upward run. Motor 30 swings boom 32 carrying chain 40 about pivot 26. The lower end 32b of the boom is longitudinally adjusted by bolts 36. A transverse screw 46 carries material cleaned from buckets 42 to one side of the trench. The machine is powered by a forward motor 14, the chain 40 and screw 46 running off a rotary fluid motor 52. The machine has retractible wheels 20 on which it may be towed on roads,
