Abstract

1328186 Secondary alkyl primary amines TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 10 Feb 1972 [21 May 1971] 6208/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Secondary alkyl primary amines are prepared by passing hydrogen and a secondary mononitroparaffin having 6-25 carbon atoms through a bed of a hydrogenation catalyst at an average conversion temperature (i.e. the average of the inlet conversion temperature and the maximum conversion temperature) of 200-450‹ F. a temperature difference of at least 100‹ F. between the maximum conversion temperature in the bed and the inlet temperature, the hydrogen to nitroparaffin mole ratio being 2À4-7À0 : 1, the hydrogen pressure being 200-1500 p.s.i.g., and the inlet temperature being 100-400‹ F. The parent C 6-25 paraffin may still be present. Specified metals or their compounds for use as catalysts are Cu, Cr, Mo, W, Re, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Ni and Co, and are preferably supported. The products are of use as, e.g. mould release agents and gasoline additives.
