Abstract

1471490 Preparing 1-aminoanthraquinone MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 16 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 54263/74 Heading C4P 1-Aminoanthraquinone is prepared by catalytically hydrogenating 1-nitroanthraquinone in an aqueous reaction medium in presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. The aqueous reaction medium may contain up to 10% by weight of a water-miscible solvent, e.g. methanol, ethanol, propanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerine, dioxane, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, 1,2- diethoxyethane, diethylene glycol or dipropylene glycol and the reaction which proceeds at 10-160‹ C. under pressure is facilitated by presence of a surface active agent. The catalysts used include palladium, platinum, ruthenium, rhodium, nickel, cobalt, copper and copperchromium. A carrier, e.g. carbon, alumina or diatomaceous earth may be used. The product is obtained by separating the product and catalyst, e.g. by filtration, from the aqueous liquor, dissolving the product in a solvent to remove the catalyst and then diluting or cooling the solution to precipitate the product.
