Abstract

1328063 Foundry mould composition DEUTSCHE TEXACO AG 13 Jan 1972 1701/72 Headings C3N and C3R A foundry moulding composition comprises sand and a multifunctional isocyanate which is the product of the phosgenation of a condensation product of an aldehyde, an aromatic amine and optionally a phenol. The composition may be used to form a mould and this mould may be cured with water, suitably in the form of water vapour or steam. In the specific example the moulding composition comprises a mixture of quartz sand, calcium stearate and a bonding agent formed by phosgenating the reaction product of phenol, formaldehyde and aniline. Phenol and formaldehyde are boiled together first under reflux in caustic, the resultant solution being neutralized with oxalic acid before addition of the aniline.
