Abstract

1327521 Rotary positive-displacement pumps GENERAL ENG CO (RADCLIFFE) Ltd 15 March 1972 [14 April 1971] 9326/71 Heading F1F In a vacuum pump having a casing 10 containing a pumping rotor 12 and immersed in oil within a reservoir 11, while air is drawn from the apparatus that is being exhausted through an inlet 11a oil enters the casing by way of drillings 23 in a driveshaft portion 13a, an annular recess 20 and drillings 16, the drillings 23 being obturated by a valve element 24 when the rotor is stationary. A bolt 21 supports both the valve element and an element 22 comprising paddles 22e, these elements being free to rotate partially relative to the bolt and coupled to each other by pins (not shown) for which holes 28 are provided. When the rotor rotates the element 22 turns against the action of a torsion spring 29 and brings holes 25 into alignment with the drillings 23. Rotation of the elements relative to the bolt is limited a peg 27 fixed to the shaft portion 13a. The valve element is loaded by compression springs 22c.
