Abstract
1326917 Coiling SCHLOEMANN AG 30 Nov 1970 [29 Nov 1969] 56674/70 Heading B3E [Also in Division B7] A method for transporting coils R of rolled stock W from coiling stations S to compacting and strapping stations B comprises an endless chain conveyer 1 connected to the coiling stations S by further endless chain conveyers 2, 3 and connected to the stations B by chain conveyers 4, 5, the rolled stock W being coiled at the station S initially upon an upper mandrel portion 7 and subsequently on a lower mandrel portion 8 to form coils R which are then transported on the lower mandrel portion 8 to the compacting and strapping station B, the coiling station S including a spider 11 with three arms each of which has a conical recess 10a for receiving a correspondingly shaped projecting bottom end 10 of a respective lower mandrel portion 8. Each portion 8 has a plate 8a which is movable vertically by a lifting and lowering mechanism 12 and also has a top end piece 9. Initially the spider 11 is in the position shown in Fig. 3 with only one arm supporting a portion 8, that arm being adjacent a conveyer F which feeds the rolled stock W on to the portion 7 for coiling and subsequently on to the portion 8 where the coil R is supported by the plate 8a which gradually moves down under the weight of the coil until the coil R is solely supported around the portion 8. Two buggies 16 are then moved over a rail until they are located on a rail portion 18a above the other two, empty, arms of the spider 11. The first of these, corresponding to the lowermost position in Fig. 3, is unloaded and the second carries an unloaded mandrel portion 8. The rail portion 18a is lowered by a cable system Z in guides 20 until the second buggy's portion 8 is supported in the respective arm of the spider 11. Each buggy has a hook 15 with a wedge-shaped slot 15a for receiving the top end piece 9 of a respective lower mandrel portion 8. Thus, as shown in Fig. 3, when the spider 11 is rotated about its shaft 13 by 120 degrees in the direction A the unloaded portion 8 disconnects itself from the second buggy and the portion 8 just loaded with a coil R is connected to the first, originally unloaded, buggy. The rail portion 18a is then raised again so that the coil R can be transported to the compacting and strapping station B, a fresh portion 8 being thus left to receive another coil R from the conveyer F. At the compacting and strapping stations B a similar mechanism to that used at the stations S is employed. Initially, one arm of a spider 11a, Fig. 4, supports an empty mandrel portion 8 beneath a counter plate 19. Two buggies 16, the first empty and the second supporting a portion 8 and coil R, are brought on to a rail portion 18a and are then lowered so that the mandrel portion 8 is lowered with its coil R on to the respective spider arm. A rotation in direction A of 120 degrees brings the empty portion 8 on to the empty buggy and the portion 8 with the coil R beneath the counter plate 19. A lifting mechanism, 12a similar to 12 lifts the plate 8a so that the coil R is compacted against counter plate 19 and the coil is then strapped and removed from the portion 8. The station B is then ready to receive the next mandrel portion 8 carrying a coil R.
