Abstract

1326661 Dissipative loads THOMSON-CSF 23 June 1971 [7 July 1970] 29522/71 Heading H1W A matched, dissipative termination for a strip line consists of a planar resistive member connecting the line conductor to the ground plane. In its simplest form (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), the termination consists of a resistive deposit on the edge of the substrate of a width equal to the width of the line conductor. In the modification shown, the planar resistive element 4 has a width equal to that of line conductor 2 but is desposited upon a separate substrate 10 in the form of a cube which also carries planar conductive elements 20, 30 on the faces perpendicular to the plane of the element 4. The substrate 10 is located in an aperture 7 formed in the substrate 1 of the strip line. The conductive element 20 is joined to the line conductor 2 by a bridge piece 8 and the element 30 is soldered to a conductive plate 9 forming a ground plane. The inductance of the bridge piece 8 is combined with the capacitances provided by lateral line elements 21, 22 to form a matching #-section.
