Abstract

1326548 Vibrators BRAXTON CORP 2 Sept 1970 [2 Sept 1969] 5174/73 Divided out of 1326547 Heading G5J [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] Sound producing apparatus comprises an elongated elastic column constrained against transverse motion, an electromagnetic motor providing periodic longitudinal forces on an end of the column at the resonant frequency of the column, a system controlling the amplitude of the longitudinal motion of the column and an extended surface transverse to an end of the column. The column 20 comprises two tubes 42, 72 joined by a coupling 52, Fig. 3 (not shown) (see Division F2). At the top of a tube 72 is a cone 80 connected to an A.C. energized coil 16 which co-operates with a D.C. energized electromagnet 14 to form an electromagnetic motor 12, Fig. 2 (not shown) (see Division H2). At the bottom of tube 20, an assembly of truncated cones 66, 90 which forms the subject of the Specification 1,326,547, couples the vibrations of the tube to a diaphragm 24 which feeds the sound into a chamber 36 where it may be used to promote coalition of suspended particles. The apparatus is symmetrical about the axis of column 20 the mass of the vibrating part is symmetrically arranged around the centre of coupling 52 where the column is supported. The frequency of A.C. applied to the armature 16 is matched to the longitudinal resonant frequency of the column 20 with a node at the centre and an accelerometer is provided to reduce the current when the design limit of the vibrations is reached.
