Portable-tracks wheels. - The pads or treads of the shoes that are fixed to the endless travelling belts employed on " tanks," tractors, &c. consists of blocks c of wood papier mÔchÚ &c. with interposed longitudinal strips d of metal, the parts being held together bv the bolts e, f, which secure the complete pad in the cavity of the shoe. Each of the members c is composed or strips, vertical layers, or blocks or pieces. The metal strips d are of slightly less depth than the members c, and may be in straight lengths, or have their ends bend round the ends of a member c, or be wound in sinuous form between the members c and around the external surfaces of the pad. Burrs h may be formed on the sides of the metal strips, which may be rectangular in section or tapered, with the broadest part towards the tread, the members c being correspondingly shaped. Two of the strips d may be connected by a cross-piece d'. The shoe a is formed of sheet metal stamped to substantially boat shape, with flared sides a' and ends a' and a flat top a<2>, and may be narrower at the ends than at the centre. Recesses a<5> are formed in the sides to provide a housing for the heads and nuts of the bolts e, f.
