Abstract

1326237 Centrifugal fans BLAWS ENG PRODUCTS Ltd 3 Dec 1971 [10 Dec 1970] 58753/70 Heading F1C A flue fan unit for incorporation in a flue piping comprises a fan 12 having a single inlet 13 on one side and its driving motor 14 on the opposite side, a casing 15, 21 surrounding the fan and motor and having a main inlet 16 for connection to receive the flue gases and an outlet 18 for connection to the flue discharge, the casing having an additional inlet covered by a grid 22 through which the fan sucks in secondary ambient air 23 the secondary air passing over the motor to cool it. The casing part 15 forms a straight portion of the flue piping of a gas appliance. A deflector plate 20 protects the fan from the hot flue gases 17, which are diluted and cooled before entering the fan inlet 12 via an aligned aperture in the deflector plate. The motor 14 is linked via a relay to the magnetic valve of the gas appliance so that the valve cannot be operated unless the motor is energized. A flow-operated vane on the discharge side of the fan actuates a switch to cut off the supply to the gas appliance if the flow falls below a predetermined volume. Instead, a thermostat on the discharge side of the fan may switch off the gas appliance if the temperature becomes excessive.
