Abstract

1325939 Producing crimped fibres FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 25 June 1971 [3 July 1970] 29892/71 Heading B5B Fibres of linear high molecular weight polyesters and copolyesters having a latent threedimensional crimp are obtained by asymmetrically cooling the filaments after they have left the spinneret but before they have cooled to a temperature at which quenching cannot influence orientation or crystallization. This cooling is accomplished by passing the filaments over a rotating cooled cylinder having a temperature of from 15‹ to 90‹ C. and a circumferential speed U in the range of from U=Vf/50 to U=Vf-Vf/90 where Vf is the wind-up speed of the spun filaments. The filaments are in contact with a length of surface of the cylinder, determined by a contact angle of from 10 to 150 degrees. The fibres are preferably composed of polyethylene terephthalate.
