Abstract
1324877 Treating textiles KALLE AG 14 Got 1970 [15 Oct 1969 22 Sept 1970] 48799/70 Heading D1R In a process for the manufacture of a chemically bonded, fibre fleece textile sheet material, (i) a fibre fleece textile sheet material containing synthetic fibres is impregnated with a liquid binder system consisting of (a) a liquid aqueous solution of a hydrophilic polymer and (c) a liquid aqueous emulsion of a C 14 -C 25 monoisocyanate and/or diisocyanate or an aqueous dispersion of an ethylene imine reaction product of a monoisocyanate and/or a diisocyanate; (di) the impregnated textile sheet material is heated to, but not substantially above, the coagulation temperature of the elastomer; (iii) then the impregnated textile sheet material is heated to a temperature above 100‹C, but below the softening temperature of the fibres contained in the material; (iv) the resulting textile sheet material is treated with a washing liquid and (v) the product is dried by heat. The liquid binder system contains 50 to 98% by weight of aqueous elastomer dispersion, calculated on the total weight of the system. The elastomer, e.g. butadiene-acrylonitrile-methacrylic acid copolymer, has free COOH, and/or OH, and/or NH 2 and/or NH and/or SH groups, for reaction with the isocyanate to cross-link the binders. Carboxyl groups react to give off CO 2 , producing a porous binder. The liquid binder may consist of an aqueous dispersion of a butadiene acrylonitrile-methacrylic acid copolymer, an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (as the water soluble hydrophilic component) and an aqueous dispersion of either stearyl isocyanate or monoethylene urea and/or diethylene urea. Typical textile materials are fibre fleeces, in particular needled matted fleeces, consisting of or containing synthetic fibres, at least part of which are heat shrinkable and preferably consisting of mixtures of at least two chemically different synthetic fibres, e.g. predominantly polyester fibres and to a smaller extent polyamide fibres. The tithe of the fibres of the fleece is preferably 0.8 to 3 Denier and the weight per unit area is preferably 150 to 500g per square metre. Advantageously the heat action for coagulation is caused by irradiation of the fleece with an infra-red radiator at 30 to 80‹C and especially 35 to 50‹C. After complete coagulation of the elastomer, the fleece is introduced into a hot air heating chamber at 100‹ to 180‹C. and heated to a temperature of preferably 120 to 180‹C. for 2 to 30 minutes and preferably 5 to 15 minutes. After leaving the heating chamber the fleece is washed with hot water and then with cold water and then dried, e.g. in a drying oven fed with air at 120 to 150‹C.
