1324651 Making welding rods; welding by fusion; soldering MUREX WELDING PROCESSES Ltd 12 Aug 1970 [14 Aug 1969] 40795/69 Addition to 1313292 Headings B3A and B3R A method of producing a welding or brazing consumable according to Specification 1,313,292 is characterized by subjecting the powder filled sheath to induction heating of sufficient magnitude to at least partially sinter the powder. An induction heater having a refractory tube passing through the coil of the heater is used, the refractory tube having two glass tubes at either end so that a protective gas can be passed through the tube to prevent oxidation of the powder filled sheath. The powder filled sheath is heated in the range of 750‹-1250‹ C. so that the metal e.g. Al, Ni or Mn, contained in the powder can melt and run into the seam of the folded strip. The consumable may be a consumable electrode or filler. Welding processes referred to include oxyacetylene flame, Co 2 or air arc. The consumable may be stainless steel or hard-facing wire.
