1324527 Halogenomethyl propanediols BAYER AG 27 Aug 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 41266/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is H or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, R<SP>2</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical or a -CH 2 OR<SP>1</SP> radical, Hal is F, Cl, Br or I, X is CO, -CON<SP>1</SP>R<SP>1</SP> or SO 2 O and n is 0 or 1 which comprises reacting compounds of the formulae and H hal at - 20‹ to + 120‹ C. The invention further comprises compounds of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-12 unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 1 or 2 olefinic bonds and R<SP>2</SP> is a C 1-6 aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon radical, compounds of the formula where R<SP>2</SP> is a C 1-6 aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon radical and compounds of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical with up to 7 carbon atoms which can be substituted by Cl, Br, NO 2 or CH 2 OCH 3 and R<SP>2</SP> is a C 1-6 aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon radical.
