Abstract

1323811 Centrifugal fans AIRFLOW DEVELOPMENTS Ltd and P E BAGLEY 10 Feb 1972 [30 April 1971] 12511/71 Heading F1C [Also in Division H2] In a fan for hot gases, the fan impeller and the driving motor are contained in separate chambers which are separated by a vented chamber containing an auxiliary impeller for inducing flow of cooling air through the driving motor chamber past the driving motor and the drive shaft and out through the vented chamber. An impeller 5 for handling hot gas is enclosed in a chamber C having a central inlet 6 and a radial outlet 7. The inlet 6 is enclosed in a chamber D having a radial inlet 11 which is diametrically opposite the outlet 7 and is surrounded by a spigot 12 coupled to a hot gas flue. The impeller 5 is connected by a shaft 8 to a driving motor 1 enclosed by a chamber A. A second impeller 9 on the shaft 8 is enclosed in a chamber B connected to the chamber A by an opening 3. Air drawn through an inlet 2 by the impeller 9 cools the motor 1 and the shaft 8 and is discharged through opposite radial outlets 10. Flow of hot gas is sensed by a pivoted vane 13 counterbalanced at 15 and pivotable to operate a micro-switch or other indicating means.
