Abstract

1323762 Lightening arrester assembly MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 15 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 49042/70 Heading H2H A lightening arrester assembly, suitable for a polyphase system, comprises a plurality of arrester elements 14-18 each having a plurality of spark gaps 14 and non-linear elements 16, each contacted in a space 50 in a housing 12 of electrically insulating material, the elements being equi-spaced relative to one another and disposed with longitudinal axes in a substantially parallel relationship and each having a terminal 26 for connection to the like voltage extending outwards from the housing and a generally circular shield 54 connected to the terminal 26 in the housing 12. A detachable grounded cover 20 is provided at the earth side of the housing and is common to all arrester elements. It is stated that such a configuration having the sheilds 54 enables the individual elements to be placed closer together. The housing is formed with one or more stepped portions 52 around each of the terminals 26, and in a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the housing at this point is flat and covered externally with a grounded shield or coating 32. The shields 54 are preferably of a circular plate 54-1 having a ring 54-2 mounted at the periphery, or alternatively a plurality of radially arranged rods again having a ring at the periphery.
