Abstract

1323426 Laminates WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 15 May 1970 [27 May 1969] 23702/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Solutions of prepolymers obtained by reacting an aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride with an amino compound where R is a tetravalent aromatic radical, Z is C 1-5 alkyl and each -NHCOZ is ortho to an NH 2 group (see Division C3) are used in the manufacture of laminates. Glass cloth coated with the solution may be precured for ¢ hour at 180‹ C. and a number, e.g. 12, layers of precured cloth may be laminated at 500 p.s.i. and 300‹ to 330‹ C. for ¢ hour. In examples the glass cloth has a gamma-aminopropyl silane finish and variations from the above laminating conditions include higher and lower pre-cure temperatures, progressive variation of pressure and temperature, and final lamination at 1000 p.s.i. and 400‹ C. Reference is made to Specification 1,323,427 in respect of the preparation of the amino compounds.
