Abstract
1323086 Pigment concentrates by flushing DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND - SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT 21 July 1970 [25 July 1969] 35186/70 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] A pigment concentrate is obtained by subjecting an aqueous pigment mass to phase reversal by addition of a binder and optionally a solvent and/or flushing aid, the relative proportions being such that the minimum amount of binder and, if present, solvent is used which will allow flushing to take place so that, on completion of phase reversal, a pigment concentrate is obtained which, at room temperature, has a high intrinsic viscosity but is still plastic with cohesion outweighing adhesion forces, and which has a residual water content of 0À8-7À2 % by wt. The binder may be a natural or synthetic resin, asphaltic bitumen, fatty acid-modified synthetic resin and/or mineral oil. A flushing aid, e.g. benzylamine, may be used in an amount 6% by wt. of the pigment weight. Examples prepare concentrates as follows: (1) 59% Milori, (ferrocyanine) blue; 26À8% phenol resin modified with natural resinic acids; 13À3% toluene; 0À9% water (prepared with the aid of benzylamine). (2) 47% carbon black; 32À4% phenol resin as (1); 19À8% toluene; 0À8% water. (3) 45% red azo pigment; 31% phenol resin as (1); 16À8% toluene; 7À2% water. (4) 49% phthalocyanine blue; 45% solution of phenol resin as (1) in mineral oil; 6% water. (5) 56À7% Milori blue; 36À1% fattyacid modified alkyd resin; 1À3% butanol; 5À9% water (prepared with benzylamine). The concentrates may be moulded into shapes and may be packed in films, paper, or foil.
