Abstract

1323059 Electrically-operated display devices; visible signalling apparatus PLESSEY CO Ltd 30 Sept 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 48265/69 Headings G4F and G5C A display indicator comprises an indicator drum 1 having a permanent magnet 5 arranged internally on a spindle 2, and an electromagnet comprising an iron core 11 embraced by an energizing winding 6, and provided with a curved polepiece 7. Energization of the winding 6 with direct current causes a magnetic polarity in the polepiece 7 which attracts one end of the magnet and repels the other (shown dotted in Fig. 1), and thus rotates the drum 1. Similarly, if the coil is energized in the opposite sense, the opposite side of the drum will be displayed. The drum is viewed through a window at the left-hand end of the device as seen in Fig. 1.
