Abstract

1322903 Spacer for electric cables BOWTHORPE - HELLERMANN Ltd 13 Jan 1971 [21Jan 1970] 3040/70 Heading H2C A spacer for electric power line conductors comprises a plurality of spacer arms, one for each conductor, jaws on each arm in which the conductors are clamped, an arm carrying member from which the arms extend, and weight means secured to the arm carrying member for damping movements of the conductors. A particular embodiment for four conductors has a tubular arm carrying member 1 to which are connected, by means of bases 12 and bolts 15, four spacer arms 2, 3, 4, 5, each of which comprises a pair of flexible elongate members, e.g. stranded steel cables, covered by protective sheaths 11. Clamping heads 6 and bases 12 carry bores into which the cable ends are secured, e.g., by compression crimping. A pair of jaws 7, 8 incorporated in each head 6, are drawn together by a bolt 10. At each end of tube 1 bases of two spacer arms are bolted together diametrically through the tube, 3 and 4 at one end 2 and 5 at the other end, the arms on the same side of the tube (2, 4 and 3, 5) being oppositely directed relative to the table. Weights 16 are attached by bolts 17 also to the ends of the tube. Stops may be provided to limit the inward motion of the arms. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 971,663.
