Abstract

1322500 Blow-moulding; pallets BP CHEMICALS Ltd 23 Sept 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 53391/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] Flat box-shaped thermoplastics articles e.g. pallets are formed by blow-moulding a parison into a preform having a tubular portion, the parison and tubular portion both having a substantially round or polygonal cross-section i.e. a ring having the ratio of major axis: minor axis between 2 : 1 and 1 : 1, the tubular portion having foldable sections, separating the tubular portion from the remainder of the preform, and deforming the tubular portion into, and retaining it in, the flat, box-shape. As shown in Fig. 1, the preform is of hexagonal section having folding sections 3 connected by ridge 4 and valley 5 fold lines. End sections 2 are removed e.g. by cutting and opposite sides 6, 7 are pushed toward each other to deform the preform into the shape of the pallet, Fig. 3, Cupshaped depressions 17 on opposite sides may be connected by heat-sealing or by bolting together. End mouldings (Fig. 4, not shown) may be fitted over the open ends to retain the deformed shape. Reinforcing ribs 15, 16 may be provided.
